Why You Must Take Action Even If You Can’t Answer “Why?”

So it’s not really a secret that I want to help business owners working online take swift, meaningful action in their marketing. And I hope it’s no secret that doing so is what gets results. You take action–of one kind or another–because you want something to happen in your business, usually something with a dollar sign attached. But what if you’re not sure what your actions should be moving you toward? What if the big “why in the sky” eludes you?
If you’re struggling to figure out your why, you’re probably struggling to put one foot in front of the other at all in your business. You’re stuck in the muck of analysis paralysis. You can’t seem to get moving because you’re obsessed with trying to answer those intimidating, existential questions every entrepreneur bumps up against at one time or another.
And this can go on and on for a long time.
And this is very, very bad–for you and for the people who need you.
Yet, sometimes, no matter how much you think and meditate and read and reflect, you just can’t figure it out. Lightning doesn’t strike. A fire under your behind doesn’t spontaneously ignite. You don’t wake up one morning and say “A-ha! By George, I think I’ve got it!”
So, instead, what you do is this:
1) Decide who is listening to you now.
2) Decide what you can offer to those who are listening.
3) Market THAT in the most compelling (yet feasible) way possible.
4) Don’t wait.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Everyone is happy. Your people get something valuable. You get to keep making money. Your biz gets to stay alive. And you’ve afforded yourself a dynamic pathway to realizing your passion and your purpose. Not super tidy, but it works.
By taking action this way, you learn what sells and what doesn’t. You discover who your right people are. You let go of “the niche” (and let the niche find you). You gain confidence and acquire conviction. Your influence grows stronger, and your circle widens. Soon people want to know what you’re “up to.”
Now we’re humming!
And then BOOM!
Lightning strikes. You think you might be on the verge of a smash hit. And you realize that your “big why” has always been–quite simply–the truth of your “right now.”
